Another week in Succotz! :)

Hi Everyone! J I hope all is well with you all. It’s been a busy a week here in Succotz. This past week was my “dad” birthday so I got to make Bollos with the help of my “mom” on Saturday. To the best of my ability, bollos are like tamales but not. Here in Belize they have bollos, tamales and tamatillos. Bollos and the Belizean tamales are wrapped with palm leaves and not corn husks. They are very good! Oh I almost forgot…we had a big event here in Succotz, it rained last Thursday and it HAILED!! Yes, hail, the ice! It was so weird; my family had never seen that before and was astonished by it. That was a good laugh trying to explain why there was ice falling from the sky.
This whole week I have been preparing for HFLE (Health and Family Life Education) lesson plan because I taught a lesson this week to a Standard V class (5th graders). It was a little nerve wracking but I got through it without a hitch. Our whole Succotz group had to cook an “authentic” Belizean meal, it a lot of fun. We made chicken, rice & beans, flour tortillas, coleslaw, and had fresh fruit.
This weekend I am off to Dangriga to stay with another Peace Corps Volunteer (PCV) and learn some more about what a real volunteer’s daily life is like and the projects they get involved in. I’m very excited to get away and relax on the beach and just veg-out! J
Thanks again for all the love and support I keep getting from everyone! I can’t believe I have been here for already 6 weeks, time is flying over here. They keep us busy during this PST!! Soon enough I’ll be an official PCV and off to my site for two years! Love you all, talk to you soon! Enjoy the photos J
